Work stuff-

work stuff - I finished Wolverine/Power Pack issue #3 earlier in the week and it's back to working on Legion of 3 Worlds. Very good week, I feel like my various projects are going well (not to subject anything to jinxing). I've got a head cold, but hopefully nothing fatal.

CroWDEd!

L.A. is usually abandoned this time of year, but not tonight. No, tonight it's flooded with people who haven't gone home to their relatives houses across this great land of ours. Thanksgiving used to be a breath of peace and quiet (if I can mix my metaphors like yams and potatoes), and I don't like it this year, not one bit.

Podcasts -

I now have over 31 DAYS worth of podcasts uploaded to my computer.
Might be time to prune, I think.

In heavy rotation right now:
Around Comics
NPR's Planet Money
Word Balloon
Tom vs. JLA/Tom vs. The Flash
This American Life
Fanboy Radio
Ifanboy
The Treatment
Comic Geek Speak

Happy Stans-giving!

By far one of my favorite things I did at Stan Lee Media. Ridin' the Turkey Stan! Have a great Thanksgiving everybody!

No stalgia for me please.

A photo that Glenn Greenberg found and uploaded to facebook of the Marvel Band. At the point where this photo was taken, the band was called Corporate Ax, since many of the members of the band had been given their walking papers in the various Marvelcutions of the mid-90's. This picture was taken around 12 years ago, before I shaved my head and dyed my hair all sorts of different colors to round out the 90's. I shaved out the last remaining color when I drove across the south to get to my new job with the Stan Lee Media dot com. John Conroy, shown playing bass here would join me and Ken Pierce in the last band i was in, the Ramones cover band (we could never agree on the name - the name I remember most was the Blitzcretins). Burn it all down.

Derivatives-

Once again Derivatives (CDS's, CDO's) have fallen off the radar, but they are coming back to bite everyone in the ass.
This is from the New York Times-
"Much of the fear centers on the unknowable. It is unclear just how bad banks’ losses on consumer loans, credit cards and mortgages will be as the economy weakens. Commercial real estate loans are deteriorating (the value of commercial mortgage backed securities dropped 20% just in the last two days) , and it is unclear whether banks have sold the worst of their holdings. Then there are all the investments that lurk off of banks’ balance sheets, in the so-called shadow banking system. And a new uncertainty has leapt to the forefront as the automotive industry teeters, sending investors scrambling to calculate how much banks are exposed to these loans."

I want everyone to repeat to themselves, quietly, the words "shadow banking system", over and over again. All day long, and then at night, before you close your eyes, I want you to say "what the fuck does THAT MEAN, 'shadow banking system?'".

Derivatives = Shadow banking system. Derivatives are NOT ON THE BOOKS. At Banks. They have debts and credits that no investor or creditor can ever find out about. How could ANY trust in any institution that has a "shadow system" ever be maintained? Well, it won't. The commercial paper market had completely seized up because no one knows what lurks in the "shadow banking system" and no one will loan any money to banks because of it, and the last time the commercial paper market seized up, in mid September, things fell completely off a cliff. You have no way of knowing what the books really look like, because they've been cooked with these goddamn Derivatives. Derivative assets that were tied to "toxic mortgage securities" that were supposed to be bought by the fed for the lat month, but WEREN'T. Not one penny spent on saving our asses.

The Derivatives are there, and they are coming for your bank, and they are going to destroy it.

Ah-

In protest of government action to raze town, townsfolk do it themselves.

It's as close to snow as it gets in L.A.-

-When you wake up to find your car covered in ash.

Hopefully now that it's cooled down a bit, if the winds shift back toward the east, the fires will die down.

Chugging away at Wolverine/Power Pack, the final push is on this week and next, I'm happy with how it's turning out.

Children's show peeve

Ok, it's officially bugging me now - can we get the colors of the rainbow straight? It's Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, indigo and Violet. Disney seems to be on a mission to take Indigo and Violet out an replace it with Purple. Do we have to dumb down the fucking RAINBOW too?

The Politics of Dancing-

I finally found the Re-Flex song "The Politics of Dancing" on itunes. A staple of my old "SK Squared" radio show, it still moves me just fine.

Slaves helped build the White House

It's true.

As if we hadn't had enough of stupid pols this year-

A new Poll on CBR I think the team of Abraham Lincoln and the Budda would have a difficult time selling Aquaman...
